After building his family’s furniture from Colorado beetle-kill pine, Sam Schabacker packed
up a truck and moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area. On the way, he witnessed the massive beetle-kill damage in the Sierra Nevada.

Sam invited his former colleague, long-time environmental advocate, Sandra Lupien, to team up to tackle this problem.

With the close collaboration of advisor, Haas School of Business MBA candidate, Adam Pugh, they created SapphirePine.
